How to evolve Aniimo

Inferlupa, moving, official art
The short answer

Open Aniimo Management, select the Aniimo and press the Evolve icon beside Level Up. Each evolution needs a level plus, often, a condition such as beating an Alpha or Omega, finishing a quest, or being in a certain place, and most final evolutions cost three of an elemental stone that drops from Alphas. Aniimo evolve through up to three stages, Lumin, Gamma and Nova. When a line branches, the branch you choose is permanent, so raise a second copy for the other one.

How to evolve

  1. Open the menu (Esc on PC, Options on PS5, Menu on Xbox) and choose Aniimo Management.
  2. Select the Aniimo. No Evolve icon beside Level Up means it cannot evolve.
  3. Press Evolve and read the requirements. On a branching Aniimo, select each silhouette to see that branch's own conditions.
  4. Meet the requirements and gather the stones.
  5. Press Evolve.

Every evolution line

Where a line splits, the choice is permanent for that Aniimo.

Getting Inferlupa, the hardest branch

  1. Raise a Flameruff to level 20.
  2. Finish the quest Journey: Warrior in Beast Fang Ridge. It runs over several real days.
  3. In daytime, defeat the elite Flameruff titled The Mighty on the plateau east of Alpha Scorchhowl until you have 6 Unbroken Flameruff Spirits. Drops are not guaranteed; releasing an Inferlupa also gives some.
  4. Get a Night Stone from Alpha Stellarys, then evolve and choose the Inferlupa branch.

Regional forms and Morph Orbs

Evolving keeps the regional form, so a Highland Emberpup becomes a Highland Flameruff. To reach another form's evolution, catch that form or change it first with a Morph Orb. Morph Orbs only switch to forms you have already caught, and they cannot make a Prismana.

Watch out

The 18 September patch changed the item Squarrel needs to evolve without naming the new one, so the Wave Stone x3 listed here may be out of date.

Why your Aniimo will not evolve

Every condition on its evolution page must be met at once: the level, which cannot pass your own Pathfinder level or your title's cap, plus any Alpha, Omega, quest, place, time or Potential condition, and the stones. A gold double arrow on its portrait means it can evolve now; a grey one means some conditions are met.

Every branch, side by side

Every evolution choiceScorchhowl or Inferlupa, Fulmintis or Ignitis, Glacy or Leafy and the rest: how to reach each, and their stats face to face.

Not confirmed yet

  • Whether evolving changes an Aniimo's Potential.
  • The new evolution item for Squarrel after the 18 September patch.
  • Whether Helion and Lunara gain a permanent evolution later in the story.

Evolution, answered

How do you evolve Aniimo?

Open Aniimo Management, select the Aniimo, press Evolve beside Level Up, meet the listed requirements, pay the stones and press Evolve.

What level does Emberpup evolve?

Level 12, into Flameruff, once you have cleared Sanctum: First Spark. Flameruff evolves at level 20.

How do you get Inferlupa?

Evolve a level 20 Flameruff after finishing Journey: Warrior in Beast Fang Ridge. It costs a Night Stone and 6 Unbroken Flameruff Spirits.

How do you get Scorchhowl?

Evolve a level 20 Flameruff after beating Alpha Scorchhowl, for one Blaze Stone.

Where do you get evolution stones?

From Alphas: each drops its element's stone, and claiming the reward costs 30 Primegy. The Light Stone comes from level-up rewards.

What are Roar Stones for?

They evolve Electric Aniimo, such as Bolty into Blazen and Wisptis into Fulmintis. Alpha Blazen drops them.

How do you get the Fulminous Soul?

From level 10 of the paid Advanced Companion Handbook in season one. It lets a level 29 Wisptis evolve into Fulmintis.

Is the evolution branch permanent?

Yes. A Wisptis sent to Fulmintis cannot become Ignitis later, so raise a second one for the other branch.

Does evolving keep the regional form?

Yes. To evolve into another form, catch that form or change it with a Morph Orb first.

Can Helion and Lunara evolve?

Not permanently as far as the game shows, but they do unlock one later in the story: Helion's becomes Soleon.
