Levelling and duplicates

The short answer

Aniimo and Pathfinder EXP are separate bars. Your Pathfinder level is a soft cap for your Aniimo and your title is a hard cap for both, but EXP earned at the cap is banked rather than lost. Duplicates are not waste: release the worse copy for Aniimo EXP, trade one, or put it to work in your Homeland. To heal, talk to Therapist Kim at an outpost, rest at a bonfire, or use the HP Recovery skill.

Three levels, two caps

Your Pathfinder level raises your own stats, catch rate, stamina and Twine damage, and it sets a soft cap: an Aniimo cannot pass your level. Your title sets the hard cap for both, and each promotion raises it.

EXP earned once you are capped goes into escrow rather than being lost, so the bar can read past its own maximum.

Where Aniimo EXP comes from

  • Main and side quests, Core Courses and the Elite Training paths.
  • Catching Aniimo and learning about them: secrets, chests, puzzles and exploration goals such as badges.
  • Sanctums, events, Pathfinder Challenges and Alpha fights.
  • Releasing duplicate Aniimo, which converts them into Aniimo EXP.
  • Growth items, such as Growth Flowers from the Game Pass perk and Growth Agaric in Astra.

What to do with duplicates

  • Compare their stats first, then release the worse copy for Aniimo EXP.
  • Trade a spare with another player through the Aniimo Exchange.
  • Put spares to work in the Homeland: a working Aniimo cannot fight, so extra copies keep your team free.
  • Keep one spare of anything you may want in a different regional form.

How to heal

  • Talk to Therapist Kim at an outpost to heal yourself and your whole party.
  • Rest at a bonfire.
  • Use the HP Recovery active skill while exploring, or in combat from Command Mode.
  • Bring an Aniimo with the Heal role, such as Skippy or Flutternym.
Watch out

Releasing is permanent and cannot be undone, so check both copies before you let one go.

Levelling and duplicates, answered

How do you level up Aniimo fast?

Quests, Elite Training objectives, catching and exploring, Sanctums, Pathfinder Challenges and Alphas. Releasing duplicates also converts them into Aniimo EXP.

Why can't my Aniimo level up?

Your Pathfinder level caps your Aniimo, and your title caps both. Get promoted to raise the cap; EXP earned meanwhile is banked.

What should you do with duplicate Aniimo?

Release the worse copy for EXP, trade a spare, or make it a Homeland worker.

How do you heal your Aniimo?

Therapist Kim at an outpost, a bonfire, the HP Recovery skill, or an Aniimo with the Heal role.

Is releasing an Aniimo permanent?

Yes. A release cannot be undone.

Do Aniimo and Pathfinder share EXP?

They gain at the same time but on separate bars, and the Aniimo bar stops at your Pathfinder level.
